AiQ Smart Clothing (AiQ) was honored to present smart textile and smart fabric solutions through world renowned shows and conferences such as Mobile World Congress (MWC), Wearable Technology UK, and Smart Fabric. With a great stage provided, AiQ demonstrated its expertise and advancement that enables the idea of smart clothing to develop into realistic market and build a robust wearable technology ecosystem centralizing on creating a true “connected mobile life” for human beings.

Wearables are entering the mainstream: wearables are now an integral part of any OEM product portfolio. At the conference, we saw numerous smart bracelets and smartwatches. There were even specialized products such as fitness bands introduced by new and emerging companies – for example, AIQ Smart Clothing Inc of Taiwan, which uses innovative technologies to integrate stainless steel yarns and threads directly into clothing to create fashionable, functional, lightweight, washable and easy to use products. AIQ says it merges electronics with textiles to create smart clothing in sports & fitness, outdoor & leisure, home & leisure, home care & healthcare products. The next wave of wearables will be defined as electronics meets fashion.

Changing Mobile World

Tucked in a small booth in a hallway not far from FitBit and Garmin's activity tracker displays was AiQ Smart Clothing Inc., a Taiwanese company with a history in garment making. In its first appearance at the MWC, AiQ was showing off its BioMan product, which brings together textile and electrodes to provide vital sign monitoring for different applications.

"The word mobile is changing, and the Internet of Things will change how people think of mobile," said Nadia Kang, AiQ's chief marketing officer. "In 'Wearables 2.0,' you will see less and less. Cables and sensors will be integrated directly into the textile. We will go back to wearing something more natural, but with electronics built into it."

The desire to create smarter fabric is shared by Taiwanese company AiQ Smart Clothing, which produces a stainless steel fibre for transmitting current through garments. Chief marketing officer Nadia Kang told IBTimes UK that her company's goal is "to help the most disabled people in a more meaningful way" by producing health-monitoring clothing which alerts the wearer (or their parent or carer) to health problems before they feel unwell, or when they are unable to tell anyone.

Founded in 2009, AiQ works in every area of the smart clothing industry, from the materials and components, through the systems used to collect and monitor data, and to the manufacturing of industry- and consumer-facing products.

Kang said AiQ is focused on a market which fits between consumer gadgets and medical equipment. It is where these markets cross which we expect to see the largest growth over the next 12 months, aided significantly by ResearchKit, recently announced by Apple as a way for developers to tap into the iPhone's sensors, connectivity and processing power to run medical tests like never before.
